Opera prima di Yoshiyuki Tomino come regista capo , si intravedono le tracce di quelle tematiche che ritorneranno più approfonditamente nelle sue serie successive.Purtroppo l'adattamento italiano non è sempre fedele e il finale è totalmente stravolto. In ogni caso Toriton resta un grande racconto epico e avventuroso che quasi fà rimpiangere che Tomino si sia dedicato in seguito solo alla fantascienza.
