- Attore, cantante e modello sudcoreano, riscuote un notevole successo per i suoi ruoli in una lunga serie di film di vario genere a partire da Joint Security Area (2000); A Bittersweet Life (2005); The Good, the Bad, the Weird (2008); la serie televisiva Iris (2009); I Saw the Devil (2010) e Masquerade (2012). Il film Inside Men (2015) gli vale il premio come miglior attore al Baeksang Art Awards, al Blue Dragon Awards e al Grand Bell Awards. Cinque dei suoi film sono nella lista dei film con i maggior incassi in Corea del Sud. Negli Stati Uniti, è noto per aver interpretato Storm Shadow in GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) e il suo sequel GI Joe: Retaliation (2013). Recita al fianco di Bruce Willis in Red 2 (2013). Interpreta il T-1000 in Terminator Genisys (2015) e Billy Rocks, un pistolero con un coltello, in The Magnificent Seven (2016).
